MIKE MATALA

Mike is employed as a maintenance mechanic working for a local school district in the Buffalo, NY area. Mike is an active member of two local conservation clubs in Western New York. The first is the Collins Conservation Club and the second is the Glen-Co Conservation Club where Mike serves as a member on the board of directors. Mike is very active with both clubs and specializes in various youth programs introducing kids to the wonders of the outdoors and the challenge and rewards of archery. Mike is a quiet friendly guy who is well respected in the Buffalo, NY area.

He is the current President of the WNY (Western New York) Winter Traveling 3-D League. This league competes at various clubs and spans approximately 14 weeks from January through April. Talk about fierce competition - shooting 3-D tournaments outdoors during the winter in Buffalo, NY! A true test of quality hunting and competition equipment.

Mike has been an avid and serious bowhunter since 1991. Since starting to hunt with a bow Mike has successfully taken Whitetail Deer, Moose, Turkey and Black Bear. His greatest trophy is his Pope & Young Ontario Moose.

In 1991 Mike started shooting competitively in local 3-D leagues and tournaments. His main focus was to become the best archery hunter he could and he practiced as often as he could. The tournament "bug" bit Mike and in 1997 he began his tournament career by entering his first IBO National Tournament. Since that time he has been recognized various times for his finishes. He has finished in second place in Team competition on two occasions and has finished as a National Top Ten Shooter in the IBO MBR Class on two other occasions. Mike has also won the New York State IBO Title five times.

Mike looks forward to representing Western New York and Alpine Archery in both the tournament and hunting worlds in the years to come. If you see Mike in the field or on the range, please stop and say hi; he will be the quiet guy letting his Alpine do his talking, but he loves to talk about hunting and competitive shooting.
